Naum Akhiezer (1901–1980)
Naum Akhiezer (1901–1980) was a distinguished Jewish Ukrainian mathematician whose contributions to approximation theory, functional analysis, and mathematical physics earned him worldwide recognition. From the 1960s onward, he became the de-facto leader of Kharkiv's mathematical community — inspiring research, mentoring generations of scholars, and standing up for those denied opportunities elsewhere.
The Akhiezer Heritage Foundation carries forward his belief that education, compassion, and courage can change lives — supporting Ukrainian scholars, communities, and those in need.
